A free day for you to take in the beautiful gardens of Hobart, do some shopping at the Salamanca Markets or just relax in the clear fresh air on a ferry on the Derwent River
clubMINI activities for the day if you wish to join in are as follows:-
We will visit the famous Salamanca Markets in the morning and then drive to the top of Mt Wellington - Every day this beautiful mountain is different whether it’s bathed in a rosy glow at dawn, resplendent in the noonday sun, darkly silhouetted at dusk. From the top you’ll see miles and miles up the Derwent Valley, down to the Southern Ocean and across to Port Arthur.
We then head south along the Huon Valley to Esperence Forest & Heritage Centre - The Forest and Heritage Centre at Geeveston is devoted to forestry, which always has and still does play a big part in Tasmania’s development. In the Forest Room, the smell of Tasmanian native timbers permeates and you can see how pioneer timber-getters lived and worked in the bush.
From here we take the magnificent forest drive as it twists and winds through beautiful tall forests to the Tahune Forest Airwalk - We will experience the adventure and journey of walking 25 – 45 metres above the rainforest canopy. The 597 metre long Air Walk, situated in the Tahune State Forest, meanders through the treetops in rainforest at the confluence of two mighty rivers – the Huon and the Picton. The final section extending over the meeting of the rivers to create a sense of being suspended above it.
The return drive back to Hobart will take us along the opposite bank of the Huon River and up the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, which is a beautiful drive with water views at every turn.
